How to Make Easy Sweet Pumpkin Scones for a Delicious Autumn Breakfast

To get started, gather the following ingredients:


  • 3 1/2 cups self-raising flour

  • 80g softened butter

  • 1/4 cups milk

  • 1 butternut pumpkin

  • 2 tsp cinnamon

  • 2 tsp nutmeg

  • 2 tsp all spice

  • 2/3 cup white sugar


  • Preheat your oven to 180°C fan-forced and line a baking tray.

  • Halve the butternut pumpkin, remove the seeds, and pierce the flesh with a fork about 20 times on each half.

  • Drizzle the pumpkin halves with oil and place them on the baking tray. Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until the pumpkin is soft. Let it cool.


  • Scoop out the cooled pumpkin flesh and mash it in a bowl until smooth.

  • In a separate mixing bowl, combine the self-raising flour, softened butter, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice, sugar and the mashed pumpkin.

  • Gently mix the ingredients until a soft dough forms.

  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and pat it into a round shape.

  • Use a cookie cutter to cut out scones and place them on the lined baking tray.

  • Bake the scones in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown.
